Dr Saeed Sharif

DVM, MSc, PhD

Saeed is originally from Iran and has a background in Veterinary Medicine. He obtained his MSc in Virology from UPM in Malaysia and moved to New Zealand in 2011 to pursue his PhD at the University of Otago. He worked at the Otago DNA Sequencing Service for three years before joining the Awanui Veterinary team in 2019.

As a Senior Scientist, Saeed leads the network’s molecular diagnostics facility, based in our Molecular Biology Laboratory in Dunedin. He brings extensive experience in molecular and cellular techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, primer design, PCR, DNA sequencing, cell culture, ELISA, and flow cytometry.

Saeed has a strong interest in the molecular diagnosis of veterinary diseases and is actively involved in R&D projects to design, develop, and validate new diagnostic tests.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, Persian literature, baking, walking, and gardening.
